New satellite images of mass graveyards in the Iranian city of Qom expose the regime’s criminal cover-up of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran.
According to the reports published by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK), over 3650 people have lost their lives to the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier reports and footages by the MEK network from the city of Qom had confirmed the existence of these graveyards, particularly the excavation of a new massive graveyard in Qom’s cemetery, dubbed the “Crisis section.”
A Washington Post article, published on March 12, with satellite images by the Maxar Technologies, confirms that despite the Iranian regime’s criminal cover-up and downplaying of the number of victims of the coronavirus outbreak, the death toll is rapidly rising amid the regime’s inaction.
In its report published on Thursday, The Washington Post wrote: “At the Behesht-e Masoumeh complex in Qom, about 80 miles south of Tehran, the excavation of a new section of the graveyard began as early as Feb. 21, satellite images show, and then rapidly expanded as the virus spread. By the end of the Month, two large trenches – their length totaling 100 yards – were visible at the site from space.”
“According to expert analysis, vide testimony and official statements the graves were dug to accommodate the rising number of virus victims in Qom,” read the report.
The imagery analyst also referred to an image showing what seems to be a large white pile of lime, which can be used to manage decay and odor in mass graves. The Iranian regime’s health officials have in recent weeks confirmed the use of lime when burying coronavirus victims.
The regime’s lack of a proper response and a failure to quarantine the city of Qom, the epicenter of the Coronavirus infection, has caused the spread of COVID-19 to at least 15 other countries that have identified Iranians or people who traveled to Iran as the source of the disease in their country.
In addition, the regime with its weeks-long cover-up in Qom, and failing to quarantine the city, which has a wide range of interactions with Tehran, not only bears responsibility for the lives of hundreds of deceased people in Qom, but has turned Tehran, Iran’s most populous urban center, and its 9.7 million people into a killing ground.
This criminal cover-up was in order to have a larger turnout in its sham parliamentary election, which was met with a general boycott.
In a blatant admission two days after the election, the regime’s Interior Minister, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, said: “Some had recommended delaying the elections, and insisted on delaying elections in Qom. But I, as the official for the elections, refused to approve these recommendations.”
“Why was the Coronavirus outbreak in Qom overshadowed by the Majlis elections? Why was Qom not quarantined to prevent the spread of Coronavirus across the country?” asked Alireza Rahimi, a member of the Majlis (Parliament) leadership, according to the state run news agency ISNA on March 7.
