Italian HR groups demand US and UN secure release of Iranian dissident hostages

NCRI – The United Nations and US must act urgently to secure the release of seven hostages taken captive during the camp Ashraf massacre and send Blue Helmet troops to protect all remaining Iranian dissidents in Iraq, 36 Italian human rights groups have demanded.

In a joint call issued during a meeting in Turin, the groups stated: “We urge the US government and the UN Secretary-General and Security Council to decisively intervene to free seven members of the Iranian Resistance taken hostage by Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki’s forces.

On September 1, the Iraqi forces attacked Camp Ashraf and executed 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK9. seven residents were taken hostage including six women.

“The seven, protected by the Fourth Geneva Convention and international refugee laws, are threatened with extradition to Iran where torture and execution awaits them.

“Moreover, to prevent further crimes against residents of Camp Liberty, we call on the US government and the United Nations to take concrete and meaningful action for the security of residents and to station UN Blue Helmets in Camp Liberty for the residents’ protection.

“Any silence and inaction by the international community in this regard is strongly condemned.”

At the same meeting, the President of Assembly for Secularism and Laws in Turin declared: “We are standing with the Iranian people and their organized resistance and in support of release of the seven hostages who are prisoners in the hands of Maliki’s forces. We say to the international community that there has been enough silence and inaction.

“The Iranian Resistance is the sole democratic alternative for a free and democratic Iran.

“Rouhani has come to once again deceive the world. The international community, and in particular EU and US, should not be fooled again. Rather, they should adopt a resolute policy against this regime and support the Iranian people and their resistance to affect a democratic change in Iran.

“This is a moral and political responsibility of the US government, the United Nations, and the European Union to urgently interfere to secure the release of the seven Camp Ashraf hostages. They must also live up to their commitments to the security and protection of the residents of Camp Liberty.”
