Over 12 million unemployed in Iran, Iranian regime’s MP admits

NCRI – An Iranian lawmaker has revealed there are now at least 12 million people unemployed in Iran and ridiculed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s claim that he had created up to six million new jobs.

Esmael Jalili, a member of Iranian regime’s parliament’s planning and budget commission, said if Ahmadinejad’s boast were true, he would be slashing the jobless total by half.

In an interview with state-run news agency Mehr, Jalili dismissed Ahmadinejad figures because the government considers anyone who works one hour per week as employed.

He told the Mehr news agency: “Six million jobs in this administration is impossible, otherwise the unemployment would have been reduced by 50%.”

Therefore he admitted that there were now at least 12 million people unemployed in Iran, largely due to closures of factories and manufacturing units.

Iran has a population of over 75 million according to a 2012 census.
