
The condemned men were put to death in public and in prisons on June 29 in a clear bid to sow fear among people.
One prisoner named as Hossein Tokan convicted of drug trafficking and hanged in Salman Farsi Square in the city of Ahvaz. A second unnamed prisoner convicted of threatening the security forces was also hanged in public.
Three others named as Afghan citizen Aref Nourzehi, 37, Shir Mohammad Kashani, 30, and Qorban Ali Souri, 55 – who had been jailed for 13 years – were confined to solitary confinement and had contact with their families cut off before being hanged in the Central Prison in Zahedan.
The sixth prisoner identified only by his initials A.S. was hanged Gachsaran prison, western Iran.
