The nationwide “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign entered its 83rd week on August 26, 2025, marking a new milestone as prisoners in 50 different facilities across Iran joined hunger strikes to denounce the regime’s wave of executions. Reports confirm that Dehdasht Prison has now joined the campaign, underscoring the reach of this growing movement inside the country’s prisons.

In its latest statement, the campaign warned of the regime’s escalating use of executions as a tool of repression. “In the month of Mordad alone (July–August), 166 people were hanged; and in the past week, 31 of our fellow citizens, including one woman, were executed,” the statement said. It added that two victims, in Kordkuy and Beyram (Larestan county), were hanged in public, describing these actions as part of the regime’s strategy to “terrorize society through humiliation and the normalization of violence.”

The addition of Dehdasht Prison to the list of participating facilities was described as “a bitter reminder that no part of Iran is spared from the shadow of execution.”

Alongside this escalation, the campaign also condemned the regime’s desecration of Section 41 of Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery, where thousands of political prisoners executed in the 1980s are buried. The regime has begun converting the site into a parking lot, an act described as “a disgraceful attempt to erase collective memory and the evidence of state crimes, but also a blatant insult to the victims and their families.” Amnesty International has also condemned this move.

The campaign reiterated its central message:

  • “Execution is not a solution;”
  • “Execution is a blatant violation of the right to life;”
  • “Execution is a tool for instilling fear and cementing political repression.”

Calling on international organizations, human rights defenders, and “every awakened conscience” to act, the campaign emphasized that the Iranian people’s protest against executions must be amplified worldwide.

This week’s hunger strikes spanned 50 prisons, including Evin, Ghezel Hesar, Karaj Central, Greater Tehran, Qarchak, Shiraz’s Adelabad, Zahedan, Mashhad, Rasht, Tabriz, Urmia, Sanandaj, and many others, culminating in the new participation of Dehdasht Prison.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has become a unifying symbol of resistance against state-sanctioned killings in Iran, now in its 83rd consecutive week of defiance.
