NCRI – The Iranian regime’s violations of the Iranian people’s fundamental rights as well as its medieval punishments like stoning have been loudly criticized by thousands of people in France, including some of the most prominent personalities loyal to various political orientations.
The French First Lady, Carla Bruni- Sarkozy, former presidential candidate and a Socialist party leader, Ségolène Royal, and two former presidents, Jacques Chirac and Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, were among the many political and cultural figures and thousands of French citizens that have signed statements condemning persistent human rights violations in Iran, including the stoning sentence of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. They also condemned the regime’s attempts to force her to appear on TV to give “confessions.”
According to the French daily Le Monde, a number of human rights organizations have called for a demonstration on August 28. It is expected that thousands of people will attend the gathering from cities as far as Sydney, Vienna, Baghdad, Nairobi and Ankara. In France, the cities of Besançon, Lyon, Toulouse, and Paris (at Parvis des Droits de l'homme au Trocadéro) will join in the global demonstrations.
According to the French daily Liberation, “So far, over 19,000 people in France have signed a statement condemning Sakineh Ashtiani’s stoning sentence.”
