Roma 20 May 2009 – Minister for Foreign Affairs Franco Frattini’s planned visit to Iran will not take place as a result of Teheran’s request to hold the protocol meeting with the Iranian president in a location other than the capital, Semnan.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs did not accept the request received this morning, expressing his deep regret for a missed opportunity to examine the possibility and modalities for involving Iran in the stabilization of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
It was therefore decided to inform Iran of the impossibility of carrying out today’s visit to discuss that theme.
