
In an interview with reporters in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, Mrs. Merkel said, “We have a huge interest in trying to free them.”
According to Bloomberg, Merkel added, “We don’t have any new information” on the circumstances of the pair’s arrest.
On Sunday, the state-run ISNA news agency in Iran reported that the clerical regime’s judiciary spokesman, Gholamhossein Ejei, said, “One of the foreign countries contacted the family of Sakineh Ashtiani, saying that two reporters will visit them about the case.”
Ejei was referring to the case of Sakineh Ashtiani, a woman whose stoning sentence prompted international outrage against the Iranian regime.
