Merkel demands immediate release of German journalists detained by mullahs

Germany: Iran still not being transparent about its nuclear program; sanctions work continuesNCRI – German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday protested against the arrest ‎of two German journalists by the Iranian regime, demanding their immediate ‎release.‎

In an interview with reporters in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, Mrs. Merkel ‎said, “We have a huge interest in trying to free them.”‎

According to Bloomberg, Merkel added, “We don’t have any new information” on the ‎circumstances of the pair’s arrest.‎

On Sunday, the state-run ISNA news agency in Iran reported that the clerical ‎regime’s judiciary spokesman, Gholamhossein Ejei, said, “One of the foreign ‎countries contacted the family of Sakineh Ashtiani, saying that two reporters will visit ‎them about the case.”‎

Ejei was referring to the case of Sakineh Ashtiani, a woman whose stoning sentence ‎prompted international outrage against the Iranian regime.
