Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 142

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Saturday, February 4, 2023 – 8 PM GMT + 1

  • Days: 142
  • Protests: 282 cities
  • Fatalities: 750+ estimated deaths, 647 identified by MEK
  • Detentions: 30,000

Iran’s nationwide uprising marked its 142nd day on Saturday following protests by people in different cities across the country and an expanding night campaign in the capital Tehran.

Early Saturday morning protesters in different cities, including Tehran, KermanshahQomDezful, and Qaemshahr, burned many regime propaganda posters, banners, and billboards in their show of protests against the mullahs’ dictatorship.

Also, in Tehran, people in different districts chanted anti-regime slogans, including, “Death to Khamenei! Damned be Khomeini!” and “So many years of crimes! Death to the mullahs’ regime!” and “Death to IRGC.” A brave young woman wrote graffiti on walls, which read, “Iran is the cemetery of fascists” and “the streets need us.”

Following the regime officials’ refusal to provide any meaningful aid for the people in the quake-hit city of Khoy, youths in Iran’s Bakhtiari regions and in Saqqez, western Iran, have started collecting and preparing supplies for them despite active measures by regime security forces to prevent such solidarity.

Protesters in Zahedan and other cities of Sistan & Baluchistan Province once again took to the streets following their weekly Friday prayers. They were protesting the entirety of the mullahs’ rule and rejecting any and all types of dictatorship while seeking a new democracy to govern in Iran.

Similar protests in Sanandaj erupted as people are demanding the release of their local leaders who have been recently arrested by the regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and intelligence agents.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) issued a call for the immediate visit to Iran by the United Nations Special Rapporteur to visit Farhad Meysami and other prisoners. Also, Amnesty International tweeted about the dire conditions of political prisoners in Gohardasht prison and reiterated that Iran’s human rights defender Farhad Meysami must be released immediately and unconditionally.

Fearing Losing the Last Supporters Iran’s Regime Increased IRIB’s Budget

Iran IRIB

State propaganda is playing a major role in forming and diverting public opinion for the Iranian regime. Sometimes it is used as a tool for soft discouragement and sometimes it is used to portray a fictitious powerful regime.

The regime’s financial investment in its media, with countless websites, satellite channels in several languages, newspapers, etc. shows us how serious and vital a powerful propaganda apparatus is for the regime’s existence.

Across social media, the regime has several thousand fake accounts which they use to lurk for prey and brainwash them ideologically in favor of its political interests. The spread of disinformation has so far helped to overcome many obstacles from inciting a second war between the USA and the former Iraqi government, to the countless so far failed attempts to eliminate the regime’s main opposition and the craft of fake opposition groups.
