Iran Protests: Protests Erupt Across Iran Amid Economic and Social Unrest

On June 5, a large group of farmers gathered in front of the provincial governorate in Ahvaz, southwest Iran, to protest the lack of payments for their wheat deliveries. Chanting, “We will never be deceived by false promises,” the farmers demanded immediate payment and accountability from local authorities.

Unemployed local workers in Shush, Khuzestan, continued their sit-in protest on June 4 for the 34th consecutive day, demanding employment at the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industry Company. The protesters, holding placards, argued that local youth should be prioritized over non-local hires. Some participants had been previously summoned by the judiciary.

On June 4, political prisoners in several prisons, including Evin and Ghezel Hesar, initiated a hunger strike as part of the “No to Executions” campaign, now in its 19th week. The campaign, highlighting the rise in executions of ordinary prisoners, calls for nationwide support from all inmates.

On June 3, retirees from the Social Security Organization held demonstrations against the government’s economic policies, accusing the regime of corruption and mismanagement. The protests were marked by calls for better pensions and economic justice.

Contract workers of the state-owned Telecommunications Company of Iran (TCI) went on strike in multiple cities on June 3. The workers protested against unfair contracts, unpaid wages, and other grievances, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction with labor conditions in Iran.

While the regime continues to ignore the demands of the Iranian people, its security forces target deprived citizens in border areas, such as fuel porters and kulbars (freight carriers), who struggle to make ends meet. On June 4, Khamenei’s Revolutionary Guards shot and killed a young kulbar and injured three others at the Baneh, Marivan, and Nosud borders. Additionally, two Baluchi fuel porters burned to death after the Guards opened fire on their vehicle near Bandar Abbas. In another incident on June 4, military forces shot and injured Parviz Qaderi, a 29-year-old kulbar, at the Nirvan border in Baneh.
