Iran Protests: Nationwide Demonstrations by Nurses, Retirees, and Workers Highlight Widespread Discontent on November 4

On November 4, Iran witnessed a wave of protests spanning multiple cities as nurses, retirees, and workers rallied to demand fair treatment, better wages, and improved working conditions. These demonstrations underscore the growing economic strain and public dissatisfaction with the government’s inaction and broken promises.

In Yazd, nurses from hospitals including Sadoughi, Rahnamoun, and Afshar continued their protests, voicing their demands for decent wages and improved working conditions. This demonstration comes just ahead of Iran’s Nurses Day, reflecting their frustration with the government’s failure to address their longstanding grievances.

Zanjan saw nurses taking to the streets, echoing the demands for fair compensation. Reports indicate that their protest was amplified by the recent arrest of “Moharram Ali Ramazani,” a representative of the nurses in the province, during a Nurses Day event. This incident has sparked outrage among healthcare professionals.

In Bushehr, nurses also gathered to demand better pay and working conditions, further emphasizing the collective voice of medical staff across the country. These protests highlight systemic issues within the healthcare sector, where promises of better wages and job conditions remain unfulfilled.

Retirees and pensioners of the Telecommunications Company of Iran held protests in Isfahan, Kermanshah, Bijar, Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, Ilam, and Tabriz. Their slogans, such as “This much injustice, no nation has seen,” pointed to poor living conditions and the government’s lack of response to their demands for pension adjustments. In Ahvaz, retirees joined these demonstrations, chanting, “Workers imprisoned must be freed,” showcasing solidarity with detained workers.

The capital, Tehran, saw protests by retired employees of IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) who gathered outside the Balar Mosque to demand their due rights and express frustration over economic hardships. The protest underscored discontent even among those linked to state institutions, indicating widespread dissatisfaction.

In Rasht, Ardebil, and Marivan, protests by telecommunications retirees reflected shared frustrations, focusing on low pensions and unmet promises. The retirees’ chants and placards demanded action on longstanding financial grievances, highlighting a persistent pattern of neglect.

Ilam also witnessed a rally by official and contract workers of the local Electricity Company, calling attention to poor contract conditions, inadequate pay, and substandard living situations.

Adding to the day’s unrest, Zanjan saw protests by creditors of the state-run Maskan Melli housing company. These individuals have been waiting for over five years for their homes to be delivered, despite having made significant down payments. This delay has compounded their financial distress, leading to public demonstrations demanding accountability and action.

In Bushehr and Shush, nurses stood in solidarity, joining the national wave of healthcare protests with chants that echoed across hospital grounds.

The widespread demonstrations reveal the increasing pressure on the Iranian government to address the economic hardships and unmet promises impacting various sectors. Protests by retirees, healthcare workers, and employees reflect a deepening crisis that, despite governmental efforts to downplay, continues to resonate across the nation.
