NCRI – Students at Zanjan University in provincial capital of Zanjan, western Iran, protested against an insulting cartoon in the state-run daily, IRAN, published last Friday.
Students refused going to their lessons and gathered at the university compound. Farid, a first year male student who was reached by telephone, said that people in the province are extremely offended by the cartoon which adds to their growing resentment toward the clerical regime which is becoming increasingly suppressive after Ahmadinejads appointment. He stressed that protests are spreading in western provinces.
Temporary closure of IRAN daily was ordered today to prevent further disturbances.
