Deteriorating human rights situation condemned in Iran by British MP

Deteriorating human rights situation condemned in Iran by British MPNCRI – In a draft resolution submitted to the British Parliament, Dr. Rudi Vis, MP from the British ruling labor party, condemned the execution of Hojjat Zamani by Iran’s ruling clergy and called for the referral of Iran’s human rights violations to the UN Security Council.

Zamani, a member of the PMOI, was a political prisoner in Gohardasht prison, west of Tehran, who was secretly hanged on February 7. He is considered the first victim of clerical regime’s referral to the UN Security Council for its nuclear weapons program. Clerical regime’s prison officials had warned that if the regime’s nuclear file were to be referred to the Security Council, all political prisoners, particularly members of the PMOI, will be executed.

The draft resolution proposed by Dr. Vis expresses deep concern over the worsening situation of human rights in Iran and the escalation of oppression since Ahmadinejad was appointed as the president in August 2005.

"Abuse and systematic discriminations against women, religious and ethnic minorities, disregard for freedom of speech and inhuman and degrading punishments are normal and everyday practice in Iran," the resolution stated.
