Euro MP calls on Secretary General to condemn bus bombing in IraqNCRI – In a letter to UN Secretary General, Dr Andre Brie, member of the European Parliament called for respect to PMOI rights in Iraq and his condemnation of a terrorist attack on a bus carrying Iraqi workers to the Ashraf City, where PMOI is based. Text of his letter is as follows:

"I was outraged to hear through the international news agencies that 14 innocent Iraqi citizens were killed and 17 wounded on Monday May 29, when a bomb tore through a city bus in Khalis, north of Baghdad, Iraq.

"The bus was carrying Iraqi workers to Camp Ashraf, the home of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), the main Iranian opposition movement. The workers had been employed by PMOI for a long time.

"The terrorist attack reminds one of over 100 such attacks on Iranian opponents by the Iranian regime in different [arts of the world throughout the years. An attack against a bus carrying members of the PMOI to Ashraf in June 1999 left six dead and was followed up by Scud missiles attack to Camp Ashraf. Last August, two members of the PMOI were abducted by agents of the Iranian regime in Baghdad. Therefore I safely assume that the latest bombing on 29th May has also been conducted by Tehran regime.

"With this alarming attack in mind, I am gravely concerned about the safety and welfare of 3400 residents of Ashraf who are recognized as "protected persons" under the 4th Geneva Convention.

"This terrorist act is also an indication of escalation of the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraqi affairs. The only way to stop Teheran regime’s terrorist activities in Iraq is to reiterate the internationally respected right for the PMOI members in Ashraf vehemently and strongly.

"Therefore I would like to urge your Excellency to condemn the Iranian regime’s recent crime in Khalis and to strongly emphasize on the rights of the residents of Ashraf to the political refugees status in Iraq."
