Spanish Euro MP called for protection of PMOI in IraqNCRI – Along many members of the European Parliament as well as lawmakers in Europe and the North America, the Spanish Euro MP, Bernat Joan i Mari, raised his concerns with the UN Secretary General over mullahs’ crimes in Iraq. His letter to Kofi Annan reads as follows:

"I am writing this memo to draw your attention to a hideous crime that occurred in Iraq on Monday, May 29.

"According to international news agencies, a public bus carrying Iraqi workers to the Ashraf Camp of the people’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), the principal Iranian opposition movement, was hit by a bomb near town of Khalis, killing 13 passengers, and wounding a dozen others.

"There is little doubt that this crime was perpetrated by agents of the Iranian regime who view the presence of the PMOI in Iraq as a major impediment to the expansion of Iranian regime’s fundamentalism into Iraq.

"This has not been an isolated incident. Agents of the Iranian regime abducted two members of the PMOI in Baghdad lam August and transferred them to the Interior Ministry. No information is available on their fate.

The Spanish MEP urged the Secretary General to condemn the Iranian regime’s crimes and called on him to see into the state of Ashraf Camp residents who are recognized as "protected persons" under the 4th Geneva Convention and press for recognition of their refugee status in Iraq.
