NCRI – The Iranian regime officials in the municipality of Ahvaz (southwest Iran) on Saturday October 22 destroyed part of people’s homes in District 8 of the city under the pretext of lack of a permit, and also destroyed much of their building materials. These houses belong to disabled people.

Sixty physically handicapped people who are only a small part of the population of 31 thousand people with mobility impairment in Ahvaz who have no support or protection have decided to form a cooperatives and become homeowners. But they say that stonewalling and sabotage by the Iranian regime’s agents, the last of which being demolition of their semi-build homes, have prevented them from achieving their goals.
Maryam Pirvand, 38, who is paralyzed in her right foot, explains: “I could hardly provide the required money for registration. I had to pay some 300 million rials for an apartment.”

She is a tenant and lives alone, but every now and then she has to move to a new place. Regarding the difficulties of moving, she says: “It is hard being a tenant even for a healthy person. I do not have a healthy body and every year I have to relocate. It is more difficult for me. It is difficult to walk. Each time after moving to a new place, I get severe back pain.”
“Lack of housing and owning a home has put so much pressure on us that we decided to stage a demonstration and gather in front of the Governorate to demand their cooperation with us to deliver our homes,” she added.
