Iran News: U.S. Homeland Security Warns of Ongoing Iranian Threats Against Officials and Dissidents

A recent report from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), published on October 15, 2024, by the U.S. Institute of Peace, highlights the Iranian regime’s persistent efforts to target U.S. officials and dissidents, continuing its campaign of retaliation for the 2020 killing of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The report stresses that “Iran maintains its intent to plot attacks against current and former U.S. government officials in retaliation for the 2020 death of Qassem Soleimani,” confirming that Iran uses individuals with access to the United States for surveillance and assassination attempts, including members of criminal networks and dual nationals. These operations are part of Iran’s broader campaign to seek vengeance for Soleimani’s assassination, a priority the regime has pursued relentlessly.

Additionally, the DHS report reveals Tehran’s growing transnational repression, targeting Iranian dissidents residing in the U.S. These actions involve harassment, intimidation, and threats, aimed at silencing critics of the regime. “Iran has targeted Iranian dissidents in the United States to suppress support for potential anti-regime protests,” the report notes, adding that Tehran’s operations extend to cyber espionage and disinformation campaigns designed to destabilize U.S. society.

The report also underscores the regime’s malign influence efforts through misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda, particularly in the context of the upcoming 2024 U.S. elections. “Iran will likely attempt to influence U.S. audiences to promote its anti-U.S. agenda utilizing social media and inauthentic websites,” the report warns, emphasizing the regime’s aim to polarize American society and undermine confidence in democratic processes.

As Iran’s clerical regime continues its campaign of retaliation and repression, U.S. officials remain on high alert, recognizing the ongoing and evolving nature of the threat posed by Tehran’s operations on American soil.
