Germany: It is in Iran’s hands when sanctions will be lifted

Germany said on Friday it understood the Iranian regime’s demand that all sanctions be lifted immediately once a final agreement on its nuclear programme is reached, but Tehran first had to implement the conditions of such a deal.

Ali Khamenei, the regime’s supreme leader, and Hassan Rouhani, the regime’s president, said Thursday they want all sanctions lifted on the first day of implementation.

German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Sawsan Chebli said: “Of course we understand Iran’s interest that the sanctions should be lifted as soon as possible, but so far we haven’t talked about a timetable in terms of months and days.”

Sanctions would only be lifted if Terhan fulfilled the conditions of the yet to be drafted final agreement and if the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed the implementation, she noted.

“Basically, it’s in the hands of Iran on which day it will happen,” she said.

The United States warned Thursday that sanctions on Iranian regime will be lifted in stages as a nuclear deal is implemented.

“Sanctions will be suspended in a phased manner upon verification that Iran has met specific commitments under a finalized joint comprehensive plan of action.”

Rathke insisted that the framework agreement agreed on April 2 between Tehran and six world powers including Washington foresees a gradual lifting of international sanctions.
At present, there’s no firm agreement on how or when to lift the sanctions in the first place.

France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Thursday told lawmakers that the sides involved in the Iran nuclear deal negotiations still need to hash out a number of key issues.

“Subjects still remain that we aren’t agreed on, notably on economic sanctions, and the Supreme Leader has made statements that show there is still a lot of work to be done,” Fabius said according to Reuters.
