Iran: Protests Following the Arrest of a Sunni Cleric

NCRI – The Public Prosecutor of Zahedan – South Eastern city, confirmed that the Sunni Leader of the Friday prayer of Sistan and Baluchestan pronvince has been summoned to the court. According to the news, Fazl Al-Rahman Kuhi is imprisoned in the security detention of Mashhad and his supporters had staged a protest in Sarbaz Town.

The Public Prosecutor of Zahedan, Ali Movahedi Rad in an interview with the journalist of the Judiciary claimed that the Sunni Leader of the Friday Prayer has been summoned to the Special Clerical Court since he had uttered controversial remarks about the domestic and international security of the Iran regime. It is noteworthy that this Sunni Leader is from Pishamag Village in the vicinity of Sarbaz Town, and he had been warned for several times earlier about his speeches.

The Public Prosecutor of Zahedan did not comment about the arrest of the Sunni cleric however, he explained about the reason of which the Sunni Leader has been summoned to the court; stating that many of his remarks were concerned with obscene websites!

The Website of “Baloch Activists Campaign”, that reported the arrest of Mowlavi Kuhi on Monday, April 3rd, released a video allegedly to the latest speech of the Sunni Leader in which he stated that the Sunnis of Iran have the right to criticize and retain their rights. However, he never encouraged people to take armed measures or to stem corruption and make mischief. Additionally, he opposes deploying Sunnis to Syria to fight against the Syrian people. Fazl Al-Rahman Kuhi is against the removal of Sistan and Baluchestan as a province as well as dividing it into parts. This sectarian plan is actually formulated by the Iran regime in order to divide various ethnic and religious groups in this province.

According to the reports, as soon as Mowlavi Fazl Al-Rahman Kuhi got arrested, people staged protest in Sarbaz Town. They set the tires on fire and blocked the transit road of Iranshahr-Chabahar. On Thursday, April 6th, the protests continued for the third day following the Sunni Leader’s arrest. The people held demonstration towards the Governorate.

Following the arrest of the Sunni cleric, the local forces of Pashamag and Hang military base handed their weapons over in act of protest. The local forces have said to the Chief Commander that they will not serve in the army as long as Mowlavi is in custody.

Following the demonstrations, the businessmen and shopkeepers of Sarbaz town and villages shut down their shops in protest.
