IAEA chief: ‘Much remains to be done to resolve outstanding issues’ with Iranian regime

IAEA, ViennaThe interim nuclear deal between the Iranian regime and six world powers is being implemented as planned but much remains to be done to resolve all outstanding issues regarding Tehran’s atomic activities, the U.N. nuclear chief said on Monday.

“The measures implemented by Iran, and the further commitments it has undertaken, represent a positive step forward, but much remains to be done to resolve all outstanding issues,” Yukiya Amano told a meeting of the IAEA’s 35-nation governing board, according to a copy of his speech, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, the director general of UN watchdog said Monday he couldn’t say that all of the Iranian regime nuclear activity was for peaceful purposes, United Press International reported.

He told the agency’s governing board he couldn’t make any definitive statements on the nature of Iran’s research activity.

“[I’m] not in a position … to conclude that all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities.”
