Urgent call on the UN and human rights organizations
to save the lives of death row prisoners
Concerned about the rise of social uprisings and creating an atmosphere of terror, the clerical regime continues to carry out executions, torture, and blind and arbitrary arrests. From March 13 to 15, 2021, the clerical regime executed at least six prisoners in Mashhad, Zanjan, and Rasht.
- On Saturday, March 13, a woman named Maryam Karimi was hanged in Rasht Prison after 13 years in prison.
- On Sunday, March 14, Arash Varesi, a native of Bijar (western Iran), imprisoned with his brother Nejat for 10 years, was executed in Zanjan Central Prison. Nejat Nejati has also been sentenced to death and is awaiting execution.
- On Monday, March 15, four prisoners, Ruhollah Javidirad, Mohammad Sayadi Baghsangani, Mohammad Hosseini, and Mohammad Vatandoust were executed in Mashhad Prison.
The Iranian Resistance urges the United Nations Secretary-General, the Human Rights Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other human rights organizations, and the European Union to take urgent actions to save the lives of death row prisoners, especially political prisoners. It also reiterates the need to send an international fact-finding mission to visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners. The case of serious and systematic human rights violations in Iran must be referred to the UN Security Council. The leaders of the clerical regime must be brought to justice for four decades of crimes against humanity.
