Tasmania State Parliament Majority Backs Maryam Rajavi’s 10-Point Plan, Calls for IRGC Terror Designation

A majority of members of the Tasmanian State Parliament in Australia, including the Speaker, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, the Leader of the Greens, and several ministers, have issued a landmark statement backing the democratic platform of the Iranian Resistance. The declaration endorses Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a free and secular Iran, calls for the formal terrorist designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and affirms the right of the PMOI-led Resistance Units to resist the regime’s repressive forces.

“We are deeply concerned about the human rights situation in Iran,” the statement begins, citing over 1,000 executions carried out by the clerical regime in 2024 alone. It adds that supporting the Iranian people and their organized resistance is both “the right policy and a moral necessity.”

The parliamentarians expressed alarm over the regime’s escalating repression, noting that even the threat of execution has failed to silence dissent. Nine political prisoners accused of affiliation with the PMOI were sentenced to death in late 2024, a move that only intensified public defiance, they noted.

The statement emphasized the legitimacy of the PMOI-led Resistance Units and called on all democratic governments to recognize their right to struggle against the IRGC, which it described as the “regime’s principal instrument of repression and regional destabilization.” It also called for formally designating the IRGC as a terrorist entity.

The MPs applauded Mrs. Rajavi’s platform for its rejection of compulsory hijab, religion, and dictatorship. They highlighted her call for the abolition of the death penalty, gender equality, religious freedom, and a secular, non-nuclear Iran. “The Iranian opposition offers a national roadmap to end religious dictatorship and transition to a republic that respects sovereignty and pluralism,” the statement said.

Echoing a broader global shift, the Tasmanian lawmakers referenced the June 2024 declaration signed by more than 4,000 legislators and 100 former world leaders in support of Maryam Rajavi’s vision. They stressed that Iranians have clearly rejected both monarchy and theocracy through their uprisings and now demand a democratic republic.

“Public protests and the actions of the Resistance Units are escalating,” they observed. “Attempts by the regime to suppress them through brutality and executions have failed. The world must recognize that this movement is not going away — and must support it.”

The declaration concluded by urging the Australian federal government and other democracies to stand with the Iranian people and the NCRI in their fight for freedom and human rights, and to align foreign policy with the values of justice, democracy, and accountability.
