Norway condemns massacre of Iranian opposition in Camp Ashraf

“Today I have received messages informing me that several people’s lives has been lost during clashes in Camp Ashraf, Iraq. Violence against civilians is unacceptable and I must emphasize the Iraqi government’s responsibility for the safety of the inhabitants,” stated deputy foreign affairs minister Torgeir Larsen on September 2.

Through our channels, amongst them UNAMI, we seek clarity into the sequence of events that has taken place. The Norwegian government has on several occasions expressed its concern for Camp Ashraf, and the Iraqi responsibility toward the Camp.

Security measures and medical aid to the wounded must be delivered immediately. We fully support the UN initiative toward the Iraqi government to immediately investigate what has taken place, says Larsen.
