On Tuesday, December 3, in addition to the previously reported executions, three other prisoners—Khalil Hassanzadeh, 33, Abdollah Panahi, and Rasoul Ebrahimi—were hanged in Tabriz.
Thus, during Massoud Pezeshkian’s presidency, at least 585 prisoners, including 21 women, have been executed since late July. The number of executions in this period is 236 more than the same period last year.
The brutality and savagery carried out under Khamenei’s orders in Iranian prisons are reminiscent of what Bashar al-Assad, his closest ally, perpetrated in Syria’s Sednaya Prison, shocking the world today. Silence and inaction in the face of such a regime are tantamount to violating universal human rights principles. Diplomatic and trade relations with the clerical regime must be conditional upon the cessation of torture and executions, and the leaders of this regime must face justice for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
