Iran: Brutal Surge in Executions
Executions in Farvardin 1404 quadrupled compared to the same period in 1403, while Esfand 1403 saw a sixfold increase
Eighty-three prisoners executed in Farvardin 1404, including 6 political prisoners, 5 women, and 2 juvenile offenders
1,051 executions since late July 2024, during Pezeshkian’s tenure
In Farvardin 1404 (21 March–20 April 2025) alone, the henchmen of Khamenei executed at least 83 prisoners, including six political prisoners and five women. At least two of the victims were under 18 years old at the time of the alleged crime.
In addition to the executions previously reported, on Tuesday, April 15, five prisoners were hanged: Gholamali Mashallahi in Arak; Sohrab Heydari, Cheraghali Ghasemi, and Feyzollah Karami in Qom; and Marziyeh Esmaeili in Qazvin. On Thursday, April 17, Ahmad Yavari was executed in Gorgan. On Sunday, April 20, Javad Goudarzi was executed in Doroud, and Sa’dollah Gorgij, a 29-year-old Baluch compatriot, was executed in Zahedan.
This brings the total number of executions since late July 2024, when Pezeshkian took office, to 1,051.
In previous years, the number of executions in Esfand and Farvardin (February–April) tended to be lower due to the Nowruz holidays and the overlap with Ramadan. However, in Farvardin this year, executions reached 83—four times higher than in the year 1403 (23 executions) and 21 times higher than in 1402 (4 executions). In Esfand 1403 (February–March 2025), executions totaled 124, nearly six times more than in the same period in 2024 (21 executions).
Such levels of savagery and brutality reflect the deadly deadlock in which the ruling religious fascism in Iran is trapped. Khamenei is desperately trying to prevent a nationwide uprising and the inevitable overthrow of his regime through executions and killings.
