Women Prisoners in Mashhad Tortured and Crucified on Beds for Protesting Dire Prison Conditions

Branch 39 of the Supreme Court of the regime’s judiciary has confirmed the death sentences of six political prisoners, Sunni compatriots who have been in prison for 9 years. Malek Ali Fadaei Nasab, Farhad Shakeri, Isa Eid Mohammadi, Abdul Hakim Azim Gorgij, Abdul Rahman Gorgij, and Taj Mohammad Khormali were arrested by Mashhad Intelligence in 2015 and were tortured for about a year to obtain forced confessions.

In 2019, Branch 1 of the Mashhad so-called Revolutionary Court sentenced them to death on the fabricated charge of “rebellion”. In August 2024, Branch 4 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court reissued their death sentences.

In another atrocity, the executioners at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad are severely abusing and torturing female prisoners who have protested. The prisoners were protesting against unbearable conditions including extreme heat, lack of basic facilities, poor food quality, unsanitary kitchen conditions, presence of pests and insects such as bedbugs, cockroaches, and mice, lack of ventilation, dirty blankets, and extreme overcrowding. In this prison, cleaning and disinfecting materials are not provided to prisoners, the walls of the wards and rooms are covered with mold and fungus, and prisoners have contracted skin diseases.

In response to these protests, on the orders of the criminal head of Vakilabad Prison, Ali Abdi, prison guards, and the prison security forces attacked the prisoners, cell doors were closed, disciplinary cases were opened against some prisoners, and some were deprived of visitation rights. In the ward known as “Asayesh” (Comfort), prisoners were tied to beds in a cruciform manner, with their hands and feet bound to the four corners of the bed with handcuffs.

The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations, its member states, as well as the European Union and its member countries, to take immediate action to stop the mullahs’ killing machine and save prisoners facing execution, especially the 6 Sunni prisoners. It also demands that an international fact-finding mission visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners, particularly political prisoners and female prisoners.
