Five Executions This Weekend in Iran and 82 in Three Weeks Amid Pezeshkian’s Cabinet Introduction

Five Executions on Saturday and Sunday Concurrent with the Introduction of Pezeshkian’s Cabinet, and 82 Executions in the Past Three Weeks

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, the regime’s executioners, concurrent with the introduction of the Pezeshkain’s cabinet, hanged a prisoner named Mehdi Dehdari in Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz and another prisoner named Davood Zaharabi in Isfahan Prison. The day before, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, three prisoners, including Mohammad Ansari in Tabriz and Nasser Gharavand along with another prisoner in Khorramabad Prison, were executed. On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Rahman Sorkhush was also hanged by the executioners in Naqdeh Prison.

Thus, from July 22 to August 11, 2024, 82 individuals, including 6 women, were sent to the gallows within just three weeks. The transfer of death row prisoners to solitary confinement for the execution of their death sentences continues. Today, Monday, August 12, three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezal Hesar Prison to implement their sentences.

Alongside the executions of prisoners, on Sunday, August 11, 2024, Ali Rasouli, a 33-year-old from the village of Koran near Mahabad, lost his life due to gunfire from the regime’s border forces at the Dopolureh border near Sardasht.

The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations Human Rights Council, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and all human rights defenders to take immediate action to save the lives of death row prisoners. It also requests that an international fact-finding committee visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners, especially those sentenced to death.
