1,500 Death-Row Prisoners Mark Fourth Day of Hunger Strike in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Today, Thursday, October 16, 2025, the hunger strike of 1,500 prisoners sentenced to death in Unit 2 of Ghezel Hesar Prison continued for the fourth consecutive day. This morning, Karamollah Azizi, the head of Ghezel Hesar Prison, along with a number of guards, appeared among the prisoners and deceitfully said, “We have obtained a three-month halt on the execution sentences,” and asked the prisoners to end their strike. This is while a large number of prisoners have been executed over the past two days, and the names and details of 17 of them have been recorded so far.

In response to the prison chief, the inmates conditioned the end of their strike on the return of their fellow prisoners who had been transferred to solitary confinement in previous days for their executions. The prison head promised to return these prisoners to their wards by Saturday, October 18. The prisoners emphasized that they would continue their strike until that day. They said, “It is unbearable for us that you take several of us for execution every day. Either kill us all together, or we will die on this hunger strike.”

It is reported that the families of the death-row prisoners plan to hold a rally in front of the regime’s parliament on October 19.
