Iran: Thursday, May 1, 2025 – Execution of Two Young Men in Dezful After 9 Years of Imprisonment, and Execution of 14 Prisoners on Wednesday

As Khamenei nears the end of his rule, he escalates executions; 1,105 executions during Pezeshkian’s tenure, an unprecedented number in three decades.

This morning, Thursday, May 1, 2025, in a heinous crime, Khamenei’s executioners hanged Karim Farrokhvand, 31, and Mahmoud Ostadmamzaei, 35, in Dezful after nine years of imprisonment. According to the Mizan News Agency, quoting the Dezful Prosecutor, “The court sentenced them to death, and after the Supreme Court upheld the verdict, their execution was carried out at dawn on Thursday in Dezful Prison.”

Approximately 200 residents of Dezful, along with the families of the two prisoners, held gatherings on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 and April 30, 2025, in front of the governor’s office, city hall, and Fajr Prison in Dezful to demand the cancellation of their death sentences. On Wednesday afternoon, the police attacked the demonstrators and dispersed them by firing shots into the air.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the Judiciary executed 14 prisoners by hanging. In addition to the names mentioned in the previous day’s statement, Emad Ahmadi (27 years old), Hamid Fazeli, Asghar Vatanparast, and another unidentified prisoner were hanged in Ghezel Hesar; Mehdi Azizi, Javid Golebacheh, and another unidentified prisoner in Mashhad; and Mohammad Nabi Zirkari, Mohammad Salamaat, and another unidentified prisoner in Ahvaz.

As the clerical regime nears its inevitable downfall, Khamenei is futilely attempting to stave off a popular uprising by accelerating the cycle of executions and killings. Since August 2024, when Pezeshkian assumed office, the execution count has reached 1,105, a figure unprecedented in the past three decades.
