- Minoo Mohraz, member of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT): Official statistics are wrong. It’s been a long time since we’ve passed the 10,000 threshold.
- According to the Health Minister, after three and a half months, less than 30% of Khamenei’s €1 billion proposed aid has been received.
- According to reports from the Medical Sciences Universities, the number of medical staff who have contracted the virus in East Azerbaijan, Bushehr, and Hormozgan Universities are 950, 412, and 250, respectively.
- The president of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences announced the unprecedented number of Coronavirus deaths in Fars yesterday, and his vice president stated that Fars Province had entered the five-digit statistics of Coronavirus infections.
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 339 cities across Iran had exceeded 60,700. The number of victims in Khuzestan is 4,590, Gilan 3,070, Lorestan 2,150, East Azerbaijan 1,860, Golestan 1,490, Hamedan 1,350, Kurdistan 1,210, and Yazd 780.
While the spokesperson for the Health Ministry announced that the death toll during the past 24 hours was 133, the highest toll in 78 days, Rouhani shamelessly claimed, “We will see a drop in the disease in the red provinces, including Khuzestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, East and West Azerbaijan, and Kurdistan, by next week.”
While Coronavirus is claiming more victims among Iranians every day, and while the regime continues to spend billions of dollars on terrorism, war-mongering, and unpatriotic missile and anti-missile projects, the Health Minister acknowledged today that out of €1 billion that Khamenei had proposed to allocate to fighting Coronavirus, “After three and a half months, we received less than 30 percent of it, which was distributed three weeks ago among universities and medical schools,” according to ISNA. He added, “What is observed today in some provinces is not the second peak of Coronavirus, but the transition of the first peak in different provinces… Today we are experiencing the first peak of the outbreak in provinces such as Kurdistan, West Azerbaijan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, and Kermanshah. …. and in provinces such as East Azerbaijan, Fars and Khorasan Razavi; we may experience the peak in the coming days.”
Minoo Mohraz, a member of the NCCT, was quoted by the Jahan-e Sanat daily, as saying, “With the increase in the number of patients in Tehran, Masih Daneshvari and Khomeini Hospitals do not have empty beds for new patients. In recent days, families who have contracted the virus go to the hospital and, unfortunately, in a critical condition. Although it is not yet as bad as the days in mid-March, it is still a critical situation in the country. If it continues like this, we will face a catastrophe in the coming months. When the number of patients increases, so will the death toll. Official statistics are wrong. It’s probably been a long time since we’ve passed the 10,000 threshold,” she added.
In East Azerbaijan, the president of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences told the state-run daily, Entekhab, yesterday, “Currently, we have infants infected with Coronavirus, and according to the latest statistics, the number of patients under the age of 15 is increasing … We are in a situation where more than 400 people are infected daily. At present, the number of hospitalizations has increased by more than 15%, out of which 8.3% have lost their lives.” The president of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences was quoted by the IRGC affiliated news agency, Fars, yesterday, as saying, “Out of 27,000 health workers in the whole Province, 950 have been infected with the Coronavirus … The medical staff are exhausted. So far, three doctors and four nurses have died.”
At the same time, in Bushehr, Fars news agency quoted the president of the University of Medical Sciences, as saying ” 412 employees of the university and non-university hospitals of Bushehr Province had contracted COVID-19.”
In Hormozgan, the president of the Medical Sciences University told the state tv news agency yesterday, “The figures for Coronavirus infections remain high. We are at the peak of the virus spread in the Province. More than 250 medical and health staff have been infected. Every day, we add 20 beds to the Province’s medical centers.”
In Fars, the president of the Medical Sciences University in Shiraz, announced yesterday “an unprecedented number of fatalities in the Province,” adding, “the number of dead is rising,” according to Serat on June 23. The University’s vice-president said, “Fars has five-digit infection numbers.”
In Ardebil, the Medical Sciences University’s deputy for treatment told Mehr new agency yesterday, “The number of outpatients and those hospitalized have increased two to three folds relative to last week… A new ward has been set up and is being filled with patients. If hospitalizations increase, hospitals will reach full capacity, and the quality of care for patients will naturally decrease. As a result, the figure for fatalities will go up similar to the first days of the spread of the disease.”
In Golestan, the president of the Medical Sciences University said, “We have two difficult and decisive weeks ahead of us…. Currently, several children have been hospitalized in Gorgan’s Teleqani Hospital and several in Gonbad Kavus. Thirteen have tested positive, and test results for the rest have not come in yet. We have infected children ranging in age from 6 months to 12 years old among the patients,” reported Hamgerai on June 23.
