Iran: Execution of a Political Prisoner After 11 Years of Imprisonment and Torture

NCRI logoThe Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the execution of the political prisoner Hassan Abyat after 11 years of imprisonment and torture and once again emphasizes the need for immediate action by the United Nations, the European Union, and the member states to release the political prisoners and force the clerical regime to stop executions and killings.

The 44-year-old political prisoner Hassan Abyat, an Arab compatriot from Hamidieh, was arrested in December 2011 on charges of “membership in anti-regime groups” and was severely tortured to obtain forced confessions. He was sentenced to death for charges such as “Waging war against God and corruption on Earth” and “Acts against the state security.” His sentence was carried out on Monday, February 20.

On February 14, the regime’s Judiciary also sentenced six political prisoners among Arab compatriots to death in Sheyban prison in Ahvaz.

The human rights dossier of the regime ruling Iran, which has the highest execution record in the world today, must be referred to the United Nations Security Council, and its leaders must be brought to justice for four decades of genocide and crimes against humanity.
