NCRI – The Iranian regime, in fear of spreading protests across Iran in June, has stepped up executions in the country. The state-run media have been reporting the execution of prisoners.

On May 26, media reported that four prisoners identified as A. Sh., Kh. N., M. B. and M. M. were hanged in the central prison of Yazd. The Yazd province justice department on May 30 accused these prisoners of drug smuggling. According to the report, the regime confiscated these prisoners’ properties.

A 26-year-old prisoner by the name of Jamal was hanged in Esfahan, on May 28, and two other prisoners were hanged on May 30 in Shirvan, Northern Khorasan province.

Considering the latest cases, the number of officially announced executions reaches 16 between May 23 and 30. Two of the prisoners were hanged in public in Ahvaz and Abadan.

The extent of the regime’s barbarism and brutality point to its increasing inability to deal with the rising popular rejection and spread of discontent and ongoing widespread protests.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN Secretary General, High Commissioner for Human Rights and all international human rights organizations to take urgent measures to forestall the trend of growing human rights violations in Iran, in particular the inhumane punishment of execution.
