Several hunger strikers have sewn their lips together in protestOn Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the hunger strike and sit-in by 1,500 death-row prisoners in Unit 2 of Ghezel Hesar Prison is entering its tenth day. Since yesterday, several prisoners have sewn their lips together and begun a dry hunger strike to protest the pressure and inaction of the henchmen of the regime’s judiciary. The medical condition of several striking prisoners is reported to be critical due to severely low blood pressure.
In a statement released yesterday, the striking prisoners expressed deep concern over the fate of six cellmates who were recently transferred to solitary confinement for execution. They urged the Iranian public: ‘In this critical situation, it is no time for silence, as the lives of the children of this land are in danger; be the echo of our voice.’
The prisoners have installed two large placards in the sit-in hall, bearing the slogans: ‘The right of Iranian youth is not prison and execution’ and ‘We say no to execution, yes to life, justice, and human dignity.’
The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the United Nations and human rights advocates worldwide to condemn the crimes of the clerical regime, support the striking prisoners, and take urgent action to save the lives of those on death row. It reiterates the necessity for an international fact-finding mission to visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners, especially those sentenced to death.
