Iran: Lives of Political Prisoners in Danger in Ghezel Hesar

Executioners secretly buried the bodies of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani without informing their families of the burial site

The Iranian Resistance warns about the lives and health of political prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison, particularly those who are ill, who since Saturday, July 26, 2025, have been beaten and transferred from Ward 4 to solitary confinement in an unknown location.

Ali Moezi, 72, suffers from prostate cancer, kidney problems, hearing impairment, and severe arthritis. He is one of the political prisoners of the 1980s who has spent more than 12 years in the clerical regime’s prisons on charges of membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). He was last arrested in October 2022 and sentenced to six years and three months in prison.

Abolhassan Montazer, 65, sentenced to death, holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and suffers from heart, lung, and kidney diseases as well as arthritis. He is among the political prisoners of the 1980s and was arrested and imprisoned several times in 2018 and 2020. He was last arrested in January 2024 and sentenced to death.

Assadollah Hadi, 66, suffers from heart, vascular, and brain diseases as well as spinal problems. He was imprisoned in the 1980s, 2000s, and 2010s for supporting the PMOI. He was last arrested in October 2022 and sentenced to six years and three months in prison.

During the assault on political prisoners in Ghezel Hesar, carried out by more than 100 armed guard officers led by prison warden Allahkaram Azizi, along with his deputies Hassan Ghobadi and Esmail Farajnejad and several intelligence agents, the heroic PMOI members Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani were transferred to solitary confinement and executed the following day.

In an inhumane act, the executioners refused to hand over the bodies of the martyrs to their families, buried them in an undisclosed location, and, with utter cruelty, did not inform the families of the burial site, preventing them from holding any memorial service.
