Regime Arrests His 63-Year-Old Father and Cousin
On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the fifth branch of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, presided over by interrogator Jalayer, charged political prisoner Ehsan Rostami with the fabricated charge of ‘Baghi’ (rebellion) for his alleged collaboration with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). This charge can result in the death penalty. After the indictment hearing, Ehsan was transferred to solitary confinement.
On August 20, 2025, he, along with several relatives and friends, including his cousin Ramin Rostami, were arrested during simultaneous raids on their homes in Tehran. They were subjected to inhumane torture and interrogation for four months.
On Thursday, October 2, 2025, Ehsan and Ramin began a 23-day hunger strike to protest the pressure from their interrogators and torturers.
Ehsan, 36, a sociologist and graduate of Allameh Tabatabaei University, is the director of Samandar Publishing and Bookstore. Recognized as a cultural figure, he is active in the fields of economics, philosophy, and socio-political movements. Ramin, 29, is an electrical engineer and an independent cultural publisher.
Jahangir Rostami, Ehsan’s 63-year-old father and a retired teacher, was also arrested at his home in Harsin on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was severely beaten, sustaining injuries to his head and face. Two days later, his torturers brought him before his son, Ehsan, with his face bloodied, in an attempt to coerce a confession.
Retired teachers’ associations in Kermanshah and Harsin issued statements condemning the arrest and beating of Mr. Jahangir Rostami and demanded his release, a call echoed during a rally of retirees in Kermanshah. The regime temporarily released him from prison on December 16, 2025, on bail of 1.5 billion tomans.
