On Tuesday, August 16, the people of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province demonstrated outside the governor’s office in Shahrekord (the Provincial Capital) to protest the water cut, chanting anti-regime slogans. The city’s water supply has been cut off for more than a week, and people do not even have access to drinking water. Tankers are used to provide water to some areas of the city.

The people of Shahrekord chanted: “Death to Raisi,” “Death to the incompetent official,” “Where is the shameless Parliament deputy for this city,” and “Why are the state TV and Radio absent? They are complicit with the water mafia,” “We are thirsty,” “Only by taking to the street can we obtain our rights,” “Shame on the governor, leave the power alone,” “Bakhtiari dies but will not submit to humiliation. The brave women of Shahrekord played a significant role in the demonstration, and the youth confronted the repressive regime forces, chanting “shame on you.”

The people of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari demonstrated in Shahrekord against the “state mafia” for diverting the water on April 28, 2022. The protesters chanted: “Beware of a time when we are forced to take up arms against you.”

Freedom-loving Iranians, supporters of the Iranian Resistance, held a rally in Zurich to support the people of Shahrekord’s demonstrations.

Today, the farmers of Isfahan also held a protest rally outside the Isfahan Regional Water Authority for the second day in protest against the lack of water. On another account, the oil company employees in different cities continued their protests today. Their protests started on Thursday, August 11.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed the courageous people of Shahrekord, especially the brave women who took to the streets against the water cuts while chanting “Death to Raisi.” Mrs. Rajavi urged the people, particularly the youth of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, to rise up in support of the protesters.
