Tehran University Dormitories Shut Down to Quell Student Protests

On Monday and Tuesday, January 12 and 13, 2026, marking the 17th day of the nationwide uprising, Tehran and various other cities were scenes of confrontations between rebellious youths, protesters, and the regime’s suppressive forces. The uprising has now spread to 207 cities.

In Tehran, in an attempt to contain the uprising, the regime ordered the immediate 10-day evacuation of Tehran University dormitories and moved exams at Urmia University online.

On Monday, the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Kermanshah, Kerman, Marvdasht, Sanandaj, Izeh, and Meshkan witnessed widespread clashes and hit-and-run battles between rebellious youths and suppressive forces. In Tehran, demonstrations and clashes erupted in various areas, including Bahar Street, Sadeghieh, Nezamabad, Punak, Elahieh, and Kargar, where protesters chanted ‘Dishonorable, dishonorable’ and ‘Death to Khamenei’ as they confronted the mercenaries of the Special Units.

In Isfahan, rebellious youths blocked roads by lighting fires in Malekshahr, Najafabad, Falavarjan, and Yazdanshahr. In Meshkan, Fars province, youths set fire to a van belonging to the suppressive forces, while on Kish Island, they set the regime’s ‘plundering’ tax office ablaze.

In Karaj, police station 43 was attacked, while a state-owned bank was targeted in Bandar Abbas. Fearing the spread of protests in Ahvaz, the regime has blocked central city streets by erecting concrete walls in the Naderi and Abdolhamid Bazaar areas. Similarly, in Dezful, security and Basij forces have fortified checkpoints throughout the city with concrete walls out of fear of popular unrest.

Meanwhile, the regime’s henchman judiciary chief, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i, in a meeting with members of the parliament’s Security Commission, branded protesters as ‘mohareb’ (waging war against God). Declaring that ‘there will be no leniency,’ he ordered the acceleration of trials and the issuance of death sentences.
