Iran: Execution of 6 Prisoners in Yazd and Mashhad Prisons

Amidst fear of a popular uprising, the Iranian regime has been relentlessly executing prisoners every day. Today, on Thursday, May 4, five prisoners, including three Baluch compatriots named Sabour Shah Bakhsh, Amir Ramshak, and Abdul Basir Bejam (Totazehi), along with an Afghan citizen prisoner and another prisoner, were hanged in Yazd Central Prison. Simultaneously, Noorahmad Zarouzehi (Nahtani), another Baluch compatriot, was hanged in Vakil Abad prison in Mashhad.

On Wednesday, May 3, Shahin Firouzkoohi and Ali Daftari were hanged in Qazvin Central Prison. On May 1, Hossein Vahedi Rigi from Zahedan was hanged in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad. On April 30, Faizullah Kavandi was hanged in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan, and on April 29, Jaber Aminifar from Zabul was hanged in Birjand Prison.

Including the executions announced in the statement of May 3rd, at least 31 prisoners have been executed from Saturday to Thursday within a week, 20 of whom were Baluch compatriots.

Furthermore, on Wednesday and Thursday, 14 prisoners were transferred to solitary cells in Urmia, Qezelhessar, Varamin, and Yazd prisons to execute the death sentence.

This new wave of executions reflects Khamenei’s desperate attempt to suppress the uprising of the people, especially the Baluch. The regime, which has a long record of torture, terror, and execution, must be rejected by the international community. The systematic and serious violation of human rights in Iran should be referred to the United Nations Security Council, and its leaders should be held accountable for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
