Iran Protests Erupt Nationwide Against Executions and Corruption

Iran: Popular Protests Erupt in Various Cities with Chants Against Executions, Poverty, and Corruption

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, October 28-30, cities and regions across the country witnessed protests by various segments of the population.

On Tuesday, October 28:

  • In Kermanshah, a group of retirees gathered to protest their living conditions, receiving support from the public. Protesters chanted slogans such as, “They plundered Iran and made us destitute,” “Rampant oppression has driven us to the streets,” “Executing sentences is a betrayal of the Quran,” “An Iran without executions,” “Poverty, corruption, inflation! The plagues of the people!” “The decrees of morality patrols and executions must be destroyed!” and “Teachers belong in classrooms, not prisons; free our colleagues.”
  • In Kangan, Asaluyeh, and Jam, hundreds of contract workers from refineries 1 through 9 of the South Pars Gas Complex went on strike and held a rally to protest the neglect of their demands.
  • Employees of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company protested in the Siri and Kharg regions, and on the two Resalat gas and oil platforms in Lavan.
  • In Ahvaz, retirees from the oil industry held a rally and protested.

On Wednesday, October 29:

  • In Shiraz, a group of poultry farmers gathered in front of the provincial Jihad-e-Agriculture Department to protest the severe crisis in supplying livestock feed and widespread corruption.
  • In Tehran, 700 owners of the “Bikhaneh” (Homeless) residential projects protested in front of the regime’s parliament.
  • In Mashhad, bakers rallied in front of the “Nanino” company office and Bank Sepah.
  • In the Bahregan region, employees of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company held a protest rally.
  • Employees of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company in the Kharg region held a protest rally.
  • In Tabriz, a group of nurses gathered during a Nurses’ Day ceremony, holding protest placards with slogans such as “Justice in the healthcare system” and “Payment of overdue wages.”
  • In Ahvaz, retirees from the steel industry gathered in front of the provincial governor’s office and chanted, “We cry out against all this injustice!”
  • In Ahvaz, municipal agents clashed with street vendors in the Golestan district, injuring several of them.

On Thursday, October 30:

  • Contract workers in South Pars held a large-scale protest rally.
  • In Zabol, heavy truck drivers gathered in front of the governorate to protest the six-month suspension of their fuel cards.
