Call for Immediate Action for the Release of Political Prisoners and Condemn Arbitrary Arrests in Iran
Frightened by rising social unrest and in order to create an atmosphere of intimidation, the mullahs’ regime has resorted to arresting former political prisoners.
On Saturday, September 17, agents of the Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) raided the home of Ms. Fatemeh (Hourieh) Ziyai Azad, a former political prisoner, in Tehran, arrested, and transferred her to ward 209 of Evin prison. The agents confiscated her mobile phones and some of her personal belongings. They took videos of all her family members and guests and inspected their mobile phones.
Fatemeh Ziyai, 59, was imprisoned for the first time from 1981 to 1986 on charges of being a supporter of the MEK. She was repeatedly arrested and imprisoned on the same charge in 2008, 2013, 2015, and 2019. She is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and needs urgent medical care. Her two children are members of the MEK at Ashraf 3.
The Iranian Resistance calls on the UN Security Council, the Secretary-General, the Human Rights Council and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all human rights advocates to condemn arbitrary arrests in Iran and to take action to secure the release of political prisoners. It reiterates the need for an international delegation to visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners, especially political prisoners.
