Maryam Rajavi Welcomes Board of Governors’ Resolution, Underscores Immediate Imperative of Snapback Mechanism, Re-imposition of Security Council Resolutions, Dismantlement of Mullahs’ Nuclear Program

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), welcomed the adoption of the IAEA Board of Governors’ resolution and stressed the need to immediately activate the snapback mechanism, implement the six UN Security Council resolutions, end uranium enrichment and dismantle the regime’s nuclear facilities. She added that while these actions should have been taken earlier, after the IAEA’s comprehensive report, there is no longer any room for delay or procrastination. Nevertheless, the secret nuclear projects of “Ivanaki” and “Kavir” in Semnan province, revealed by the Iranian Resistance on May 8 and June 10, have not yet been investigated, nor included in this report.

The ruling mullahs have a record of deception and secrecy, Mrs. Rajavi noted.  Were it not for the revelations of the Iranian Resistance in the past 34 years, they would have acquired nuclear weapons long ago. The regime has never adhered to its obligations under the NPT and Security Council Resolution 2231 (UNSCR 2231) and has always used negotiations to buy time and complete its nuclear projects. Obtaining the atomic bomb and exporting terrorism and warmongering abroad have always constituted the regime’s strategic guarantee for survival. The crushing defeats suffered by the regime and its regional proxies over the past year have intensified its need for nuclear projects.

Experience has shown that so long as this regime is in power, it will not stop repression, terrorism, exporting fundamentalism, warmongering and its nuclear program. The ultimate solution to get rid of a nuclear-armed terrorist dictatorship is to change it by the Iranian people and the Resistance. As thousands of lawmakers, leaders and prominent political figures from different countries have declared, the international community must recognize the right of the Iranian people and the Resistance to fight against the mullahs and bring about a regime change.

The Board of Governors’ resolution condemned “Iran’s non-compliance with its obligations under the Safeguards Agreement with the Agency.” The resolution notes: “the Agency’s ability to ensure verification of the non-diversion of nuclear material required to be safeguarded under Iran’s NPT Safeguards Agreement to nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices… is at an impasse”

The resolution states: “The Director General’s inability to provide assurance that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful… gives rise to questions that are within the competence of the United Nations Security Council, as the organ bearing the main responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.”
