Only a firm policy will end the mullahs’ hostage-taking policy
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)’s Representative Office in Italy strongly condemns the abduction of the Italian journalist Ms. Cecilia Sala, who has been imprisoned in Evin since December 19, 2024. Hostage-taking and terrorism are well-known tactics employed by the religious fascism ruling Iran in its foreign policy, to exert pressure, gain concessions, and secure the release of its terrorists and criminals arrested in foreign countries.
Over the past 45 years, appeasement, deal-making, and negotiations with the Iranian regime regarding its hostage-taking tactics have rendered this reprehensible practice profitable and have only encouraged its continuation.
Following the disgraceful deal that led to the release of Assadollah Assadi, a terrorist diplomat sentenced to 20 years in Belgium, and the release of Hamid Noury, involved in the 1988 massacre and sentenced to life imprisonment in Sweden, the religious fascism ruling Iran has been encouraged to take more European nationals as hostage.
The experience of the past 45 years shows that the only way to end the vicious cycle of terrorism, espionage, technology trafficking, and the hostage-taking of Western citizens in Iran, as well as negotiations over the exchange of terrorists and criminals, is to exercise firmness against this regime. Designating the clerical regime’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) as terrorist entities, closing the regime’s embassies and representations, and expelling its agents are essential components of this policy. The mullahs ruling Iran only understand the language of firmness.
