Iranian Journalist Sentenced to 4.5 Years in Prison

On Wednesday, August 7, the Iranian regime’s Appeals Court in Tehran sentenced Massoud Kazemi, a dissident journalist, to 4.5 years in prison.

Kazemi was sentenced by Branch 36 of the Appeals Court in Tehran to two years in prison for insulting the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, two years in prison for ostensibly ‘publishing lies,’ and six months for insulting other officials of the regime.

Kazemi previously worked with the regime's state-run Sharq and Qanoun newspapers and the state-run Seda-ye Parsi monthly magazine.

He had been arrested by the regime’s Revolutionary Guards at his home in Tehran on November 5, 2018. He was later released but rearrested on May 22, 2019.
