Amnesty International calls for the release of political prisoner on hunger strike in Iran

Amnesty International has called for the unconditional and immediate release of Latif Hasani, a political prisoner on hunger strike in Raja’i Shahr Prison in Karaj. Mr. Hasani who is serving a nine-year prison term has been on hunger strike since may 18 in protest at the treatment of political prisoners in Iran.

“His health has weakened as a result of his hunger strike, possibly exacerbating his pre-existing health conditions, including an irregular heartbeat for which he takes medication, severe low blood pressure and stomach pains,” Amnesty said.

Latif Hasani as well as four other men, Mahmoud Fazli, Behboud Gholizadeh, Shahram Radmehr and Ayat Mehr-Ali Beyglou, were arrested between January and March 2013 and all were sentenced to nine-year prison terms in April 2013.
