Iran regime “stealing national wealth, brutalizing its people”

Geneva human rights panel: Susan Mathews, 2nd from right

NCRI – The mullahs in power in Iran are stealing the wealth of the Iranian nation and brutalizing opponents, Irish human rights activist Susan Mathews has said.

Ms. Mathews addressed a Geneva conference on September 18 on the sidelines of the 30th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Iranians plan to rally outside the United Nations in New York on September 28 to denounce the visit by the mullahs’ President Hassan Rouhani to the UN General Assembly.

The rally, which is being organized by the Organization of Iranian-American Communities (OIAC), will press the international community to hold the regime in Iran accountable for its abhorrent human rights record.

The mullahs’ regime in Iran continues to execute more of its citizens per capita than any other U.N. member state. Some 2000 people have been executed under Rouhani in the past two years.

Human Rights Situation in the Middle East
Friday 18 September 2015 (15h30 – 17h00)
Palais des Nations – Room XXI

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am humble to be here with you today. By way of discussing the things that are happening in Iran I wish to talk of Khaled Al Assad of Palmira of Syria. Khaled Al Assad was the curator of the museum of Palmira. He loved his work and was renounced for his work as an expert on Palmira. We know that he hid some of the treasures of Palmira with the approach of ISIS. He was imprisoned by ISIS and interrogated twice. He refused to yield and tell them where the treasures were hidden. He was brutally executed. He was a true guardian of Palmira. He laid down his life for it and its treasures. His violent executioners were not strong or brave, they were weak cowards. Khaled Al Assad was a true man, he was brave and strong.

The government of a country are the guardians of a people, the country, the economy, given power to make wise and good decisions on behalf of their people. In Iran, the government thieve from the people they serve, stealing the wealth of the country and the people for themselves. They lock up whoever they like, they brutalize them and execute them if they wish. These are not strong men. These are weak men, corrupt and unfit for the power of a government. They are not guardians of their people. Khaled Al Assad of Palmira was a true guardian who displayed the highest standards in protecting that which was trusted to him. It is the Iranian men and women such as Khaled that the Iranians deserve. True, brave and above self-interest. Men and women who will serve the greater good of the people they serve.

Thank you.
