June 3, 2025 – Iran – As the Iranian regime intensifies its campaign of executions, political prisoners across the country continue their courageous resistance. Marking the 71st week of the No to Executions Tuesdays campaign, prisoners in 46 prisons nationwide are holding coordinated hunger strikes in protest of the state’s systematic use of the death penalty, which they say is used as a tool to suppress dissent.

This week, the campaign welcomed a new group of participants from Firuzabad Prison in Fars Province, who will join the Tuesday hunger strikes in solidarity with fellow prisoners and the families of those facing execution.

Since May 21, at least 67 individuals, including three women, have been executed across Iran. On a single day—May 28—the regime executed 20 prisoners in a brutal show of force. The campaign warns that these killings are taking place amid widespread violations of due process and fair trial standards, and often in near-total silence from the outside world.

Among the recent victims is Pedram Madani, executed in secret in Ghezel Hesar Prison on espionage charges. In another case, the Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Mohammad Amin Mahdavi-Shayesteh, also sentenced to death for alleged espionage by Judge Abolghassem Salavati, known among political prisoners as the “judge of death.” Mahdavi-Shayesteh is now at imminent risk of execution.

The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign expresses its solidarity with Iran’s striking truck drivers, now on the twelfth day of their national strike, and calls on other oppressed segments of Iranian society to support and join them. “Unity across struggles is our greatest strength,” the campaign stated, urging Iranians to break the silence and amplify the call for justice.

The campaign also urges families of death row prisoners to publicly share case details and appeal to international human rights organizations. “Raising public awareness can disrupt the regime’s machinery of execution. Do not be intimidated by threats or false promises from interrogators—only public pressure can save lives.”

Over the past weeks, families of condemned prisoners have taken to the streets in multiple cities, chanting “No to Executions” despite threats and intimidation. The campaign calls on all Iranians, especially these families, to continue their support and not leave justice-seeking families isolated.

Prisons participating in the June 3 hunger strike include:

Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 & 8), Ghezel Hesar (Units 3 & 4), Karaj Central, Fardis Karaj, Greater Tehran, Khourin Varamin, Choobindar Qazvin, Arak, Khorramabad, Yasuj, Asadabad Esfahan, Dastgerd Esfahan, Sheyban Ahvaz, Sepidar Ahvaz (Men’s & Women’s Wards), Shiraz Military Prison, Adelabad Shiraz (Men’s & Women’s Wards), Zahedan (Women’s Ward), Borazjan, Ramhormoz, Behbahan, Bam, Kahnouj, Tabas, Mashhad, Gonbad-e Kavous, Qaemshahr, Rasht (Men’s & Women’s Wards), Rudsar, Haviq Talesh, Azbaram Lahijan, Dizelabad Kermanshah, Ardabil, Tabriz, Urmia, Salmas, Khoy, Naqadeh, Miandoab, Mahabad, Bukan, Saqqez, Baneh, Marivan, Sanandaj, Kamyaran, and Firoozabad Fars.
