ACTU Expresses Support for Iranian Teachers Protest

Michelle O’Neil, President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions- Australia’s largest trade union, representing millions of workers, students, teachers, and all walks of life in Australia – wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General on Friday, February 25, expressing her support for the nationwide teachers’ protest in Iran.

The letter reads: “The Australian Trade Union Movement expresses grave concern over the Iranian regime’s failure to respond to the demands of teachers and retirees during the nationwide protests and strikes that have continued over the past four months in more than 200 cities. Iranian teachers are calling for higher salaries, pension reform, and the payment of arrears. In return, the Iranian regime continues to arrest, crackdown, and imprison teachers.”

Iran Nuclear Chief Says Tehran To Enrich Uranium to 20% Even After Nuclear Deal- Reports

DUBAI, Feb 25 (Reuters) – Iran will continue to enrich uranium to 20% purity even after sanctions on it are lifted and a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers is revived, Iranian news agencies quoted the country’s nuclear chief as saying on Friday.

“(Uranium) enrichment … continues with a maximum ceiling of 60%, which led Westerners to rush to negotiations, and it will continue with the lifting of sanctions by both 20% and 5%,” the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, was quoted by the semi-official news agency Fars as saying.

U.S. Says Iranian ‘Muddywater’ Cyber Actors Targeting Various Sectors Worldwide

WASHINGTON – Iran-linked cyber operations are targeting a range of government and private-sector organizations in multiple sectors across Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America, U.S. security and law enforcement agencies said in a notice on Thursday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), along with British and other U.S. authorities, said they had observed Iranian actors known as “MuddyWater” conducting malicious cyber operations targeting telecommunications, defense, local government, and the oil and natural gas sectors.

Iranians, MEK Supporters, Call for a Firm Policy Vis-à-vis the Mullahs’ Regime

On Friday, Iranians, supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Vienna, Austria, continued their protest. These protests, which coincide with the current nuclear talks in Vienna, demand a firm policy toward the Iranian regime. At the same time, the number of deaths in Iran’s prisons has also increased. Authorities are imposing pressure on prisoners by denying them healthcare, depriving them of basic facilities, and more.

Reports and video footage from inside Iran indicate members of Resistance Units, a network affiliated to the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside Iran, broadcast more anti-regime audiotapes in the cities of Tehran and Mashhad with slogans against the regime played in two crowded streets.

In Rudaki Street of Tehran, the Iranian capital, anti-regime slogans were played at around 7 pm local time in the crowded area.

Iranian Teachers Vow To Continue Protest Despite Threats and Arrests

Iranian teachers continue to call for more nationwide protests despite threats and arrests by security forces. They held rallies in more than 100 cities on Tuesday, February 22. During the protests in Shiraz, southwestern Iran, Iranian teacher Ali Hassan Bahamin was detained after he gave a speech at the gathering. Bahamin is a teacher activist from Yasuj, also in southwestern Iran, and had traveled to Shiraz to take part in the protests. He was released 24 hours after his arrest.

Reports indicate that several other teachers who had taken part in the February 22 protests were detained by security forces despite the peaceful nature of the rallies.

Political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared is serving her 13th year in exile in Semnan prison. She is suffering from fatty liver disease and is deprived of minimal facilities in Semnan prison.

“Maryam Akbari is unable to provide the food needed to maintain her minimum health as the doctor has set,” an informed source said. “Because there are no facilities for cooking food even for the sick inmates in Semnan Central Prison.”

“This political prisoner has been forced to eat bread and cheese for about a year. Because she cannot eat prison food and this food has endangered her health.”
