Iran Protests at a Glance

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Sunday, June 11, 2023 – 8 PM GMT + 1

On Sunday, people from various social backgrounds and professions in Iran took to the streets to voice their demands for basic rights and a decent standard of living. They gathered together in different cities and provinces, seeking fair treatment and the means to sustain themselves and their families.

Steel mill workers from Malayer in Hamadan Province, western Iran, gathered to express their dissatisfaction with authorities’ refusal to pay their wages over the last six months. Nevertheless, local officials responded to the protest by deploying security forces, who used pepper spray and batons against the protesting workers.

In the capital Tehran, footage was posted on social media showing disabled locals protesting the regime’s refusal to implement its own laws on supporting disabled individuals. Regime security forces were dispatched and tried to dismantle the gathering.

In the city of Kermanshah, also located in western Iran, disabled residents took to the streets on Sunday morning. Their rally outside the Provincial Health Organization aimed to denounce the regime’s failure to uphold its own laws concerning the support of disabled individuals.

Similar gatherings have been held in the cities of Kerman, Qom, ArakBorujerd, and Ardabil.

Retirees and pensioners of the regime’s Social Security Organization in the cities of Kermanshah and Shush, western and southwest Iran, respectively, rallied and held gatherings on Sunday protesting poor living conditions and medical care, among other rights and demands.

In Kermanshah, western Iran, retirees and pensioners of the regime’s Social Security Organization rallied to protest poor living conditions and medical services and voiced their economic woes.

Locals in the Shahrak-e Bagheri district of Tehran, the capital of Iran, began chanting anti-regime slogans on Saturday night, including “Down with the dictator!” This is a direct reference to regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Workers of the Hepco Sugarcane Company in Arak, central Iran, held a gathering on Saturday protesting retirement rules that will put further pressure on their livelihoods.

According to state news agencies, on Sunday, June 11, clashes erupted as security forces attempted to prevent a ceremony honoring one of the martyrs who had lost his life during a recent uprising.

The event was organized by the family of Kian Pirfalak to commemorate their beloved ten-year-old son on his birthday. Kian was killed on November 16, 2022, in a shooting incident involving security forces while he was sitting in his parents’ vehicle in the city of Izeh.

Anticipating the celebration of Kian Pirfalak’s birthday, the city of Izeh was under strict security measures. Authorities sought to prevent people from attending the ceremony, despite the public’s eagerness to participate.

Local sources reported that security forces set up a checkpoint and sought to prevent people from joining the ceremony. Allegedly, the regime’s security forces opened fire on attendees and subjected the public to harassment. Pouya Molaeerad, a cousin of Kian Pirfalak’s mother, was shot by the security forces and later died from his injuries after being taken to the hospital.

Khamenei’s Rep Warns Against Youth Turning Against Clergy

Reza Nouri, the Iranian regime Supreme Leader's representative in Bojnourd

During his Friday prayer sermon on June 9, Reza Nouri, the Iranian regime Supreme Leader’s representative in Bojnourd warned against the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization and called on the state officials to stop the youth from being influenced against the state.

“Throughout the turbulent times our country has faced, including the sedition of hypocrites [the regime’s pejorative expression to defame the MEK in Iran’s society], the Baathists, and the nationwide attacks, there have been discussions surrounding infiltrators who emerged within the authorities during the early stages of the revolution,” Nouri said. “Their aim was to create disruptions within the system, leading to numerous assassinations of officials.”

He added: “The forces opposed to us are determined to erode our faith, targeting not only us but also our children and young people. They have brought their war into our very homes, infiltrating both physical and virtual spaces. Today, their aim is to alienate the youth, influencing them to tear apart or insult the photo of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini. Although they are few in number, the enemy persists in their efforts. They remain active. We must not forget that this ‘Explanatory Jihad,’ as advocated by our leader, is a response to their ongoing campaign. Even before we embarked on this mission, they had already started using their media to manipulate the impressionable minds of the youth, attempting to instill pessimism towards national hero Martyr Soleimani and even the clergy. This is a war—a war that has now invaded our very homes.”

Iran’s nationwide uprising is witnessing its 268 day on Saturday following a busy day of demonstrations and anti-regime rallies in Zahedan, and brave youths in the cities of Urmia and Qazvin launching attacks against regime sites. The mullahs’ regime has been going the distance to prevent these protests and quell dissent, even resorting to an increasing number of executions and abducting families of protesters killed by security forces in the recent Iranian revolution. People throughout Iran continue to specifically hold the mullahs’ Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei responsible for their miseries, while also condemning the oppressive Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and paramilitary Basij units, alongside other security units that are on the ground suppressing the peaceful demonstrators.

Iran’s Draft Seventh Development Plan Is Riddled With Insurmountable Challenges

Irans Draft Seventh Development Plan Is Riddled With Insurmountable Challenges

The draft of the Iranian regime’s Seventh Development Plan has raised eyebrows with its ambitious targets and controversial measures. With the aim of achieving an annual economic growth rate of eight percent, the plan envisions massive capital investment in the Iranian economy. However, skeptics argue that the proposed growth in oil and non-oil exports is unrealistic, especially considering the existing trade and banking sanctions imposed on Iran. Furthermore, the plan’s goal of limiting annual cash growth to 20 percent and reducing inflation to below 10 percent seems incongruous with the proposed tenfold increase in investment. Ali Mazrooei, a former deputy chairman of the regime’s Parliament Planning and Budget Commission, dismisses the plan as unrealistic and illusionary, citing the failure of previous development plans to achieve their quantitative targets.
