Former Official Acknowledges Public Outrage Against Ruling Clergy

Rasul Montajebnia

In an article that was later taken down, on May 14, the state-run Eslahat News published an interview with a former state official that reflected the explosive state of Iran’s society and the public hatred toward the ruling dictatorship.

“After last year’s protests, people’s anger toward the clergy became worse,” the website wrote in its intro. “From tossing turbans to running over clerics, this is only a part of these unfortunate events in the country. Because most of the people in society consider the clerics and their interference in all affairs to be the most significant factor in the country’s critical situation.”

Weighing in on this topic, Rasul Montajebnia, a former state official told Eslahat news: “Recently, one gentleman said that the attack on clerics is the result of committing haram [Arabic for forbidden things under Sharia law]; It is unclear how they come to this conclusion. These people are even more law-abiding and better Muslims than you are. They have seen the mistakes of these clerics and this is why they are doing these things. The actions that we are seeing these days are due to the faults of our clergy and we have not been able to maintain our dignity and status in society. Why do clerics interfere in all matters and express their opinions on everything?”

Factional Infighting Eyes to Eliminate Current Parliament Speaker, State-affiliated Source Reveals

iran eqtesad news qalibaf (1)

In an article entitled “The Qalibaf-elimination Project Kickstarted”, the state-run Eqtesad News wrote today: “The horns of infighting among the principalists are blowing. Every time there is a parliamentary election, a presidential election, or even an election on deciding about the parliament’s leadership, the war rises from the bottom of the endless ocean of differences and appears at the surface. This time, the reason for their differences, which is more evident than in the past, is the two upcoming elections, including the election of the Speaker of the Majlis on May 23 and the election of the 12th parliament, which is scheduled to be held on March 1, 2024.”

“In the meantime, it seems that in both their short-term and long-term goals, the Paydari bloc [the faction close to former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] is pursuing to remove Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf from politics and power. So far, their great rivals among the principalists, such as Nateq Nouri, and Ali Larijani, have been eliminated with different tactics and excuses,” the source added.
