Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 74

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Monday, November 28, 2022 – 7 PM GMT+1

  • Days: 74
  • Protests: 277 cities
  • Fatalities: 660+ estimated deaths, 528 identified by MEK
  • Detentions: 30,000+

Iran’s nationwide uprising is marking its 74th day on Monday through nationwide strikes by truckers and protest rallies at universities during the day and street rallies through the night.

Truck drivers and owners in many cities across the country joined the protests by not moving their vehicles on Sunday and Monday in a significant escalation of strikes taking place in the almost 11 weeks since the current uprising began. More truck drivers and owners are joining the movement with each passing day.

Truckers in many cities, including Isfahan, Shiraz, Kashan, Bandar Abbas, Qazvin, Shahreza, Salafchegan, and Kermanshah refrained from moving goods in support of the ongoing protests, and various sit-ins and strikes by industrial workers. The strike by truckers has the potential to cripple the economy. Fearful of the political, social, and economic impact of the strike, which will lead to more shortages in an already staggering economy, the regime has already started promising drivers extra fuel subsidies to lure them back to work.

College and high school students in different cities have continued their rallies and gatherings, protesting the regime’s crackdown against the entire society, and especially their fellow classmates.

At night, protesters have been using Molotov cocktails in more frequent attacks targeting the regime’s security forces and centers, especially sites of the Basij, a paramilitary force affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC); centers used by the mullahs to promote the regime’s ideology of hatred, misogyny, and fundamentalism; offices of local representatives of regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei; local offices of members of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) in various cities and towns; and symbols and posters of regime propaganda.

Day of the Ayatollahs Is Over, Quietly or With Violence They Will Be Removed – Comment

I have worked for years as a tailor in Iran and have become quite good at using needles and sewing machines to sew, mend, and alter posh women’s clothes.

But since September 16, my life has totally changed, and I have become used to other tools and other skill sets. Nowadays backpacks are indispensable, and I mastered the use of things like tear gas neutralization devices, which I carry when I take part in protests. At 25, I am one of the young Iranian women who have battling in the streets for the past two months, trying to overthrow the theocratic regime and establish a democratic republic. What is taking place in Iran is a revolution.
